oh my god what have i gotten myself into here?? yes being a TEENAGER means being AWKWARD so i have to have a song that isn't cool and about being awkard, but is actually awkward. cringe. embracing the cringe. the song is cringe. the song is real. i am cringe. you are also cringe. what the fuck is virginity, just fuck and not fuck, be happy, do it safe, who cares? (no one that matters). now can we talk about the fucking parenthesis?? apparently Distrokid doesn't let you have two parentheses in a row, so the last one is cut off? what the fuck. i hate music in 2024 (more like 1984 am i right) fun fact: i recorded these vocals at my home in my bedroom! i got a fancy mike AKG 414 B-ULS fuck yeah. also i absoulutely love Paul's bass line on this one. he really pushed this song into a better place with his part.
Recording Notes
the mix is inspired by the white stripes. one vocal track, one guitar, bass, drums. keeping it sparse (unlike other songs where i'm trying to cram as much into the midrange frequencies as possible ("can i add another guitar layer?" - me to Michael)). the vocals are slightly panned to one side... a rarity!!
i did the guitar part in one take, and, if i may congratulate myself, i think i nailed the dynamics. i used a hollowbody guild starfire for this one, and some overdrive pedal buuut i forgot which one oops. and riding that volume knob.
