Turn Into Jelly

Lyrics

i never wanted to take this job
but freedom of choice means “work or starve”

maybe i'll go live out on a farm

i work harder than you know
i work smarter than you know
i'm way better than you know
    doing what i’m told

my boss say that we are family here
a pizza party every year

just so we won't want to unionize

i work harder than you know
i work smarter than you know
i'm way better than you know

  doing what i’m told

i work harder than you know
i work smarter than you know
i'm way better than you know

  doing what i’m told

Song Notes

just a fun song about hating your job. what a novel concept everyone can relate to!

one summer i worked at a family-owned chinese restaurant in Marquette and i was terrrrrrible at it. i was 1,000% anxious, trapped in a death spiral where my anxiety ruined my performance, increasing my anxiety, ruining my performance, again! and again! and...

i am a much more confident, stable and less anxious person now. i no longer fear doing stuff for/with/at strangers. BUT i think i'd STILL be a terrible waitrx (non-binary waiter/waitress) now just for different reasons (diagnosis: i am an artist and a rebel)

Recording Notes

this song features Matt & Lauren on vocals!!

this song is super fun to play live, but also one of the hardest to nail!

really happy with the fuzz tone on this one ;) credit goes to Michael and a crazyyy pedal he has, the "Montreal Assembly Your and You're", the *only time* i'm not using an EHX pedal this whole album ;)

fun fact about guitar solos: i write them right on the edge of my playing ability,
so i get better at guitar by practicing them! since nothing gets you better at an instrument than playing live.
now that it is (relatively) easy for me to play, it's become a nice indicator of how much i've improved as a guitarist
