kristen (who did the awesome artwork omg so good) said this song reminded her of The Kinks and My Chemical Romance which is the best compliment i have ever received in my life™ it's about dysphoria of course it took me a while to figure out that being trans is actually cool the earliest version of this song existed as a song called "blue" that i wrote when i was in high school just took me a decade to write the lyrics

big lesson from my first attempt recording this song: lots of gain != heavy lots of layers != big lots of gain & layers == mushy soup! so the first version with a diff distortion pedal got chucked i learned from AC/DC that you don't need a lot of distortion to be heavy just listen to "Shoot to Thrill" from AC/DC Live that's what? a preamp boost into a Marshall JTM? that's it? fuck i triple-tracked the Graphic Fuzz (still a favorite!) using three different frequency bands with like... a little bit of overdrive and it sounds way more aggressive and heavy that scream in the bridge was my first take! nailed it! michael did not know i was going to scream for 8 seconds so that was a funny moment in the studio uhhh, you had to be there i'm sorry this is awkward i shouldn't have brought it up tempo shifts
